About The Team

The Cedar Falls High School Rocket Club is a highly motivated group of students who strive to learn about math, science, and their applications in the real world while exploring STEM-related careers before they begin college. We hope that you will be able to take part in one or more of the many exciting events that we are offering this year and experience firsthand the pride we take in supporting our students.

Mission & Vision

The Mission of the Cedar Falls High School Rocket Club is to aid and encourage the safe pursuit of amateur rocketry through the practical application of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In order to meet our mission and provide excellent educational opportunities for our students, we rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses for support. Without the assistance of community-minded individuals, we wouldn't be able to support our students’ interest in STEM each year.

What We Do

To achieve our mission, we have competed (and are competing) in various different competitions. As the team grows, we have been able to compete in multiple at once!

The team first competed in The American Rocketry in Challenge (TARC) in 2015. After not qualifying for the national finals, we came back in 2016, making the cut and getting to fly in Washington D.C. The following year, the team placed 5th place at TARC 2017 and was invited to submit a proposal for the NASA Student Launch Initiative.

After an accepted proposal, we competed in NASA SLI for the duration of the 2017-18 school year, winning Judges Choice Award. We then returned the next year, taking home our second Judges Choice Award, as well as the Rocket Fair Award.

2020 and the virus that came with it put a halt to the team's TARC plans. However, the team returned in 2021, competing in TARC and Rockets for Schools. We qualified for TARC Nationals and placed high enough at Rockets for Schools to be invited to submit a proposal to the NASA Student Launch Initiative.

The team just recently wrapped up "Project Heimdall" for NASA SLI 2021-22. We have a ton of information about the project that you can see on our Projects Page. We took home awards in 5 of the 7 SLI award categories, including Judges Choice Award and Best Looking Rocket! We also have two teams that competed in TARC, one of which qualified for the 2022 National Fly-Off in Virginia!
